Alimony

In North Carolina, to obtain alimony, the dependent spouse must prove he or she is the dependent spouse and the other is the supporting spouse. The dependent spouse must also prove the supporting spouse has the ability to provide support. The court will also look at providing the dependent spouse with a monetary award which will help him or her maintain the lifestyle he or she enjoyed during marriage. This action must also be filed prior to the date of the divorce judgment. The same residency requirement of six (6) months applies in alimony.
